I joined Sheffield Hallam in 2009, having completed a PhD at FernUniversität Hagen and then worked for the University of Konstanz for nearly 10 years.
My main research interests are in international and global history. I have published on the history of globalisation, European imperialism, international economic history, and the shipping industry. More recently, I developed an interest in the role of mobility in everyday life and in the social structures of modern societies.
At Sheffield Hallam, I teach on imperial and German history, and I also look after PhD students in my role as Postgraduate Research Tutor for Humanities.
I would welcome enquiries from potential PhD students interested in international and global history topics.
