Making History

Britain between the Wars: Crisis, Transformation and the People, 1918-39

I work on 19th and 20th century British history. I taught at the University of Nottingham and Northumbria University before joining Sheffield Hallam University in 2016.

My research interests include the history of activism, gender and women's history, working lives (particularly white-collar work), and the history of retailing and consumer society. My current research project, 'The Clerical Profession and the Administrative Revolution: the Rise of the Modern Workplace in Britain', explores gender politics, activism, technology and professionalisation among office workers.

I enjoy supporting students on the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees to develop their interests in modern British history.
