I came to Sheffield Hallam in 2003, when I joined the History team and began teaching on a variety of modern European history modules.

I am interested in twentieth-century Germany, especially the First World War, Weimar and Nazi periods, and also in the history of international cooperation, women’s activism and the development of rules governing the treatment of civilians in war.

I have been involved in community-based projects commemorating prisoner of war and civilian internment camps in various locations in the UK, the Isle of Man and Germany, and this also feeds into my teaching.

I am particularly passionate about helping students to transition successfully from A levels into Higher Education and am often involved in liaison work with schools and colleges. Outside of academic roles, I like being a cat owner, a bridge player and a reader of German crime fiction.
